Swansea Woman Wins £150 Grant and Electric Blanket Support
A resident of Swansea, Angharad Thomas, received a significant boost to her household budget with a £150 grant and a free electric blanket, describing the experience as “one of life’s wins.” The 45-year-old discovered this support through a news notification about a campaign by OVO Energy, which offers free electric blankets to eligible residents.
Upon learning about the initiative, Ms Thomas quickly explored her options and was directed to TSB’s Lightning Reach portal. This platform connects individuals with various forms of personalized support, including grants, benefits, and assistance with bills. After using the portal, Ms Thomas found out she qualified for both the electric blanket and the grant.
Ms Thomas, who lives on a tight budget and receives Universal Credit, applied for the grant immediately. She commented on her proactive approach, stating, “I followed up with a telephone call to OVO, having made my application online through the Lightning Reach portal.” Her diligence paid off when she received the electric blanket delivered to her home within a day, and the £150 credit was applied directly to her energy bill.
The application process was efficient and straightforward. “I was very impressed with the quality of service provided by OVO, and they were very informative and super efficient,” Ms Thomas remarked. The support she received has had a considerable impact on her daily life, particularly as the heated blanket has helped her stay warm while managing energy costs and her health needs.
Impact of Lightning Reach Initiative
Jodie Thompson, the director of customer services at TSB, highlighted the broader significance of stories like Ms Thomas’s in showcasing the positive effects of the Lightning Reach initiative. “We’re proud to help connect households with the financial support available to them,” she said. Thompson encouraged others to check their eligibility for grants, emphasizing that assistance could make a considerable difference during the winter months.
Ms Thomas’s experience illustrates the importance of readily accessible support for individuals facing financial challenges. With initiatives like Lightning Reach, more people can discover the assistance they may not have known existed. As winter approaches, the availability of such resources becomes increasingly vital for those managing tight budgets.
For individuals interested in exploring potential grants and support, TSB’s Lightning Reach portal offers an accessible starting point to ensure that essential help is not overlooked.
