Heavy rain in Gloucestershire has raised concerns of potential flooding along the River Severn, with the Environment Agency issuing warnings for affected areas. Flooding is expected to begin this evening and could continue into tomorrow morning, particularly during high tides.

The Environment Agency has highlighted that river levels are projected to reach significant heights, with forecasts indicating peaks of between 3.5 meters and 3.65 meters in Gloucester around 21:15 on March 15, 2024. In Sandhurst, river heights may reach 3.7 meters by 21:30, escalating to approximately 3.8 meters tomorrow morning.

Areas at risk include Sandhurst, Maisemore, and the nearby regions of Coal Wharf and Riverside. The Environment Agency’s statement warned that properties along Base Lane Sandhurst and Sandhurst Lane could experience flooding. The agency is closely monitoring the situation and advising residents to stay vigilant.

“Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses,”

a spokesperson for the Environment Agency cautioned. They further advised against walking, cycling, or driving through floodwaters, emphasizing the importance of safety during these weather conditions.

In addition to the flood warnings, alerts have been issued for surrounding areas. While these alerts indicate a lesser likelihood of severe flooding, residents are encouraged to remain aware of changing conditions. The Environment Agency continues to provide updates and guidance as the situation develops.

As the community braces for potential impacts, local authorities are preparing resources to assist those affected. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their properties.
