Budućnost Voli Falls to Burg 88-73 in Eurocup Clash
In a disappointing outing, Budućnost Voli suffered a significant defeat against Burg, losing 88-73 in their Eurocup match on December 6, 2023. The team’s performance was hindered by a lack of offensive strength, leaving them unable to capitalize on their recent success, which included ten wins in their last eleven games across all competitions.
The match marked the ninth round of Group B in the Eurocup, where Budućnost Voli had hoped to secure a top position. Despite an impressive shooting percentage from beyond the arc at 52.4%, their overall shooting struggles were evident as they managed only 35.3% from two-point range and missed nine free throws (25-16). With this defeat, Budućnost now holds a record of 6-3, falling behind Bešiktaš, who stands with seven wins and two losses.
Struggles on the Court
The game got off to a slow start, with both teams exchanging points in the first quarter. Budućnost managed to edge ahead 21-19, buoyed by three successful three-pointers from Jogi Ferel and Aksel Bute. However, their performance quickly declined in the second quarter, where they scored only 14 points compared to Burg’s 26. The turning point came when Budućnost struggled to score for the first three and a half minutes of the quarter, allowing Burg to establish an 8-0 run and take control of the game.
Burg’s ability to capitalize on turnovers significantly contributed to their lead. By halftime, they had built a sizeable advantage, leading 45-35. Although Budućnost showed promise, their inability to convert opportunities, including free throws, hampered their efforts.
Burg maintained their momentum into the third quarter, where they outscored Budućnost 25-24. A remarkable three-pointer from Darijus Megi at the buzzer extended Burg’s lead to 70-58. Budućnost faced additional challenges, as Rashid Sulejmon left the game due to injury, further depleting their resources.
Key Performers and Next Steps
Despite the setbacks, Jogi Ferel stood out for Budućnost, scoring 18 points, alongside four assists and three rebounds. Flečer Megi added 12 points, but it was Burg’s But Gac with 22 points and Darijus Megi with 18 points, seven assists, and six rebounds who dominated the scoreboard.
Looking ahead, Budućnost Voli will seek redemption as they prepare to host the London Lions on December 10, 2023. The team will need to regroup and address their shooting woes if they hope to regain their winning form and secure a strong position in the Eurocup standings.
