Sarah Ferguson’s Children’s Book Pulled Amid Controversies
Sarah Ferguson’s new children’s book, Flora And Fern: Kindness Along The Way, has been withdrawn from sale just weeks before its scheduled release. Originally set for publication on October 9, 2023, the book was listed as available on Amazon from November 20, but has now been marked as “withdrawn from sale” at the request of its publisher, New Frontier Publishing. The publisher has not yet commented on the decision.
The withdrawal comes amid ongoing controversies surrounding Ferguson, particularly her previous connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Last month, Waterstones bookstores informed the BBC that the publication date had been rescheduled, but they did not provide a new release date. According to Neill Denny, an industry expert from the book trade news website Book Brunch, the decision to delay the book is commercially sensible given the circumstances. He stated, “You have to imagine it’s to do with the current controversies. It’s not the right time to release a book by Sarah Ferguson.”
In recent months, Sarah Ferguson has faced significant reputational challenges. She lost her title as Duchess of York and has seen a decline in her earning power due to her involvement in the Epstein scandal. An email written by Ferguson to Epstein in 2011, which surfaced earlier this year, revealed her apology for distancing herself from him after his 2008 conviction for procuring a minor for sex. A source close to Ferguson explained that the email was written in a state of panic and without legal advice, highlighting her concern that Epstein might sue her for libel.
Socialite and party planner Liz Brewer noted that Ferguson has always been likable but is currently unwelcome at high-society events. She remarked, “People, unfortunately, are not brave enough to make their own minds up. She’s in a very difficult position.” Ferguson’s situation has led to her being dropped by several charities and media outlets.
In light of these challenges, Ferguson is exploring options to restore her finances. One potential avenue is a high-profile interview with Oprah Winfrey, who has previously hosted Ferguson twice—in 1996 after her separation from Prince Andrew, and in 2010 following a scandal involving an undercover sting operation. Reports suggest that such an interview could generate up to $1 million.
Additionally, Ferguson is considering writing a memoir that would detail her experiences within the royal family. Such a project could also attract significant financial returns, potentially reaching six figures.
As the situation continues to unfold, the impact on Ferguson’s career and public perception remains to be seen. The withdrawal of her children’s book further complicates her efforts to navigate the current controversies and rebuild her professional life.
