The highly anticipated Bokeljski derby takes place tonight at 20:00 local time, as Jadran MTEL hosts Primorac in the sixth round of the Premier Regional Water Polo League. This match is crucial for both teams, with the home side holding a one-point lead over their rivals.

Jadran enters the match buoyed by a recent victory in the Champions League, having defeated Novi Beograd 12-11 just three days ago. This win served as a significant boost for coach Vladimir Gojković’s team, especially following a disappointing loss to Šabac (12-10) in the regional league. “The game against Primorac is very important, and we expect it to be quite challenging. We want the three points to solidify our position among the top four teams in the standings,” stated Strahinja Gojković, emphasizing the importance of the match.

The derby holds special significance for Stefan Vidović, a veteran player who has participated in many previous encounters but will be representing Primorac this time. “The Bokeljski derby is one of the most enjoyable matches to play in. I am thrilled to be part of it again,” he remarked, highlighting the intense rivalry between the teams.

Jadran boasts four wins in the Premier League, two of which were secured through penalty shootouts. However, a recent defeat to Šabac allowed the western Serbian team to leapfrog them in the standings. Currently, Jadran sits in third place, tied on points with Radnički. “We made mistakes against Šabac last round, and such errors cannot happen again. I urge all our fans to come out and support us,” Gojković added.

Meanwhile, Primorac faces a tough challenge as they enter the match following a streak of three consecutive losses. In the Champions League, they suffered defeats to Oradea (14-7) and Ferencváros (26-15), and also lost to Radnički in the Premier League (13-7). The Kotor-based squad trails Jadran and Radnički by one point in the league table.

“We are on a tough run of away games, as we will play Brescia in Italy after this match. Jadran is performing very well this season, having beaten several strong teams, so we expect an exceptionally tough game. We have prepared as best as we can for the derby and hope for a favorable result,” Vidović stated.

In addition to the derby, another significant match will take place tomorrow, when Budućnost, the third Montenegrin representative in the Premier Regional League, hosts Partizan at 18:00. The weekend promises exciting encounters for water polo fans in the region.
