Liverpool Legends Hall of Fame Set to Open at Beatles Museum

A new exhibition dedicated to the cultural icons of Liverpool is set to debut at the Liverpool Beatles Museum on November 20, 2023. The exhibition, spearheaded by Roag Best, brother of former Beatles drummer Pete Best, aims to celebrate not only the Beatles but also a diverse array of talent from the city, including artists, actors, and sports figures.

During a recent podcast conversation, Roag Best shared insights into the vision behind the exhibition. He expressed a desire to honour the many contributors to Liverpool’s rich cultural heritage. “The Beatles weren’t the only ones that made this city successful. There are sculptors, script writers, artists, actors, sports stars, designers, radio presenters—the list is endless,” he stated.

The Liverpool Beatles Museum, located directly across from the historic Cavern Club, has been a hub for fans of the Fab Four. Roag Best revealed that only 10% of the museum’s collection is currently on display, with a significant portion of Beatles memorabilia stored in a warehouse. This new initiative will convert unused floor space within the museum to showcase a broader range of memorabilia, expanding the narrative of Liverpool’s influence on global culture.

The roots of the exhibition trace back to Roag’s upbringing. His mother, Mona Best, owned the Casbah Coffee Club, one of the first venues where the Beatles performed. Roag noted, “I’ve always been a collector, and my mum taught me never to throw anything out. She had a vast amount of what is now known as Beatles memorabilia.” Inspired by his wife’s suggestion to establish a museum, Roag’s collection has grown into a tribute to not just the Beatles, but to all who have contributed to Liverpool’s legacy.

The new Liverpool Legends Hall of Fame aims to pay homage to local heroes beyond the music scene. Roag explained that they reached out to various personalities around the world to loan items that represent their contributions. “We contacted so many around the world and asked if we could borrow an item that represents them. Everybody was fantastic, so we are now opening a museum, within a museum,” he said.

This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of cultural contributions from all sectors. Roag Best emphasized that it has been long overdue to acknowledge the myriad talents that have emerged from Liverpool.
