Tyrone Districts Compete for Glory in Inaugural Darts Tournament
The first-ever inter-district darts tournament held in County Tyrone brought together teams from various districts for a night of spirited competition. Organised by the Killyman District Orange Order, the event took place on March 15, 2024, at Tamnamore Orange Hall, creating an atmosphere ripe with enthusiasm and camaraderie.
Teams comprised of five brethren from different districts took to the oche, ready to showcase their skills. The tournament format encouraged maximum participation, as each player was guaranteed three games throughout the evening. Every match consisted of three legs, with points awarded for each leg, ensuring that every game played a crucial role in determining the overall champions.
Among the contenders was the Pomeroy District LOL No 5, which fielded a strong team including Deputy District Master Raphael Burnside, Gareth Boyd, Daryl Graham, Mark Kerr, and Stephen Ramsay. The Pomeroy team demonstrated impressive performances, with each member securing at least one victory during the night. Their collective teamwork was highlighted when Stephen Ramsay achieved a remarkable score of 180, thrilling spectators and teammates alike.
As the evening progressed, the competition intensified. It was the brethren from Stewartstown District LOL No 2 who ultimately claimed the inaugural trophy, showing consistent form and precision in their finishing. The final standings revealed a well-fought contest, with Stewartstown District taking first place, followed by Pomeroy District in second and Killen District in third.
The successful execution of the event can be attributed to the organisational efforts of the Killyman brethren, who ensured a warm welcome and provided excellent facilities at Tamnamore Orange Hall. The tournament served not only as a competition but also as an opportunity for fellowship and goodwill among the participating districts.
Overall, the inaugural inter-district darts tournament has set a positive precedent for future events, fostering community spirit and friendly rivalry in County Tyrone.
