Festive Artisan Market Returns to Peel for Holiday Shopping
A beloved festive event known as Christmas Hygge is returning to Peel this weekend, offering a unique shopping experience that celebrates local creativity and community spirit. Hosted by Artreach Studios, this year marks the eighth iteration of the event, which showcases artisan craftsmanship across four indoor venues: Sailors Shelter, Pilates Isle of Man, House of Manannan, and Artreach Studios itself.
This year’s addition of Sailors Shelter on East Quay provides a new location that enhances the event’s warm atmosphere. The venue, which has served the Peel community since 1876, is transformed into a festive haven, embodying the Danish concept of ‘hygge’—a focus on warmth, comfort, and simple pleasures. Historically, Sailors Shelter has offered refuge for sailors and fishermen during harsh weather, making it a fitting backdrop for this celebration of community and creativity.
Each participating venue contributes to the overall experience. Pilates Isle of Man combines the themes of wellness and festive cheer, while the House of Manannan offers a captivating cultural setting within its museum foyer. Artreach Studios continues to serve as a hub for local artists and small businesses, showcasing their talents throughout the event.
With more than 30 artisan stalls, visitors can explore a diverse range of handcrafted gifts, including jewellery, fine art, illustrations, textiles, candles, sustainable beauty products, and an array of delicious baked goods. Local food vendors, such as The Parish Pantry and Filbey’s Little Food Shack, will also be on hand to provide tasty offerings.
The event kicks off with a launch night on November 14, 2023, from 17:00 to 20:30. Following the launch, the market will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 16:30, with Sailors Shelter closing at 14:30 on Sunday. For more information about the event, visit www.artreachstudios.com.
The Christmas Hygge market promises to be a heartwarming celebration that not only highlights the talent of local artisans but also fosters a sense of community during the festive season.
