Kyle McKenzie Becomes Permanent CEO of Lancaster’s Escape2Make
Kyle McKenzie has been appointed as the permanent Chief Executive Officer of Escape2Make (E2M), a youth charity based in Lancaster. McKenzie, who has been serving as interim CEO, aims to enhance the charity’s mission to support young people aged 11 to 18 by providing them with creative activities that combat boredom, social media overuse, loneliness, and academic pressures.
E2M focuses on creating safe and welcoming environments through various initiatives, including clubs, holiday programs, outreach workshops, and community events. These activities are designed to foster creativity and community engagement among young people in Lancaster and Morecambe. All offerings are inclusive and free, encouraging participants to make new friends, develop skills, and contribute positively to their surroundings.
McKenzie’s Journey and Vision
Growing up in rural North Wales, McKenzie faced economic challenges and limited access to creative outlets, particularly in film. Raised by a single mother, he found inspiration in making homemade videos with friends using an old camera. His determination led him to university, where he pursued his passion for film. He became involved with E2M in 2019, furthering his commitment to empowering young people.
“I wholeheartedly believe in the vision this organisation has,” McKenzie stated. “I regularly wonder about what fantastic things E2M would have done for me if it had been around when I was a teenager. I don’t think it would have taken me going off to university to learn about who I am.”
As CEO, McKenzie is eager to continue witnessing the impact E2M has on local youth. He feels a profound sense of pride in being part of an organization that helps young individuals gain confidence and explore their identities.
Support from the Community and Future Goals
Jenny Natusch, the founder of E2M, expressed her support for McKenzie’s leadership. “Kyle has played a key role in Escape2Make’s journey since 2019. His passion for empowering young people truly embodies our mission,” she said. Natusch emphasized that McKenzie’s appointment at just 27 years old is a powerful example of the potential that arises from investing in youth.
She highlighted that the charity’s proven model of creative education, centered in their high street location, is more critical than ever. Natusch expressed excitement about McKenzie building on the organization’s momentum to reach an even broader audience of young people facing modern challenges.
