Two men are in custody following a high-speed police chase that reached speeds of up to 80 mph in a 30 mph zone in Willenhall on September 25, 2023. The incident unfolded in the early hours of the morning when traffic officers spotted a Mazda that had been reported stolen just a day prior from Broad Lane North.

Upon noticing the vehicle, police attempted to stop it, but the driver accelerated rapidly, prompting a pursuit. Officers reported that the car disregarded traffic signals, ran red lights, and narrowly avoided collisions with other vehicles as it sped through the narrow streets of the area.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated, “We’ve arrested a man for dangerous driving after a car failed to stop for officers and was spotted driving nearly three times the speed limit.” The police pursuit concluded shortly before 12:30 AM, when officers successfully apprehended the driver.

The driver, a 49-year-old man, faces multiple charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and operating a vehicle while disqualified. In addition, he faces charges related to attempted theft from a shop and theft from a shop.

A second suspect, aged 37, was also arrested during the incident, facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of an offensive weapon. The police emphasized the effectiveness of their specially trained traffic team in managing the situation and ensuring public safety amid the dangerous driving.

The chase raised significant concerns among local residents, as the high speeds and reckless behavior posed serious risks in the densely populated area. Following the arrests, police reassured the community of their commitment to addressing and preventing such criminal activities.

This incident highlights ongoing issues related to vehicle theft and dangerous driving in urban areas, prompting further discussions about public safety measures and law enforcement responses. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather evidence and assess the full extent of the suspects’ actions.
