Heavy Rain Floods Home of Krasnić Family in Nikšić Again

A severe weather event this morning has resulted in significant flooding affecting the home of the Krasnić family in Nikšić, Montenegro. Heavy rainfall caused water to overflow, inundating their residence and compounding the difficulties the family has faced in previous weather incidents. The family consists of two parents and five children, who live in the Trebjesa neighborhood.

According to the Center for the Affirmation of Roma and Egyptian Population (CAREP), the Krasnić family has been enduring material losses and inadequate living conditions due to repeated floods. The organization has been actively providing temporary assistance, including food and hygiene supplies, in collaboration with the Volunteers Foundation of Montenegro.

Firefighters from Nikšić have responded on multiple occasions to help safeguard the family’s home, demonstrating community support in a challenging situation. CAREP has stressed the importance of addressing the needs of families facing similar hardships.

Community and Government Response

Local authorities, including the relevant officials from the Municipality of Nikšić, are aware of the ongoing situation. Milajim Delija, an independent advisor on the rights of Roma and Egyptian populations within the municipality, has indicated that potential long-term solutions will be explored, working in conjunction with civil society organizations.

“Efforts will be made to consider sustainable solutions, in line with existing procedures and possibilities,” Delija stated. The Krasnić family has expressed a desire for employment opportunities and is ready to work, prompting CAREP to issue an open call to institutions and public enterprises. They have encouraged these entities to consider hiring individuals from socially vulnerable backgrounds when job openings arise.
