Hywel Dda Health Charities has successfully funded six new Buddy Day Bed Chairs for the Angharad Ward at Bronglais Hospital, thanks to generous local donations. The chairs, valued at over £7,500, provide parents and caregivers a comfortable space to rest while staying close to their children during hospital visits.

The Buddy Day Bed Chairs are designed as manual recliner chairs, offering a dual function for both sitting and sleeping. This feature allows parents, carers, and family members to remain by the bedside of children and young people receiving treatment, ensuring they are present for support and care.

Bethan Hughes, Ward Manager, expressed gratitude for the charitable funds, stating, “We are very grateful that charitable funds have enabled us to purchase six new buddy beds. The chairs are a valuable item in providing patient/family-centered care. Without them, parents and family members would be unable to stay overnight with their children, and patients wouldn’t have suitable seating when out of bed.”

The funding for these chairs was made possible through the efforts of the Angharad Ward team. Four members—Meinir Morris, Sian Davies, Bethan Fitz Griffiths, and Rachel Davies—organized various fundraising activities. Notably, Meinir and Sian hosted a disco featuring music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, while Bethan and Rachel participated in the Llanelli Half Marathon on 24th September 2023.

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, highlighted the importance of community support, stating, “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda, and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.” She emphasized that such contributions significantly enhance the health and wellbeing of NHS patients, service users, and staff.

The addition of these Buddy Day Bed Chairs will undoubtedly improve the experience of families during their hospital stays. The initiative reflects the commitment of Hywel Dda Health Charities to enhance patient care through community engagement and support.
