Court Considers Travel Ban for Man Accused of Threatening Politician

The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Bijelo Polje has proposed a travel ban for Asmir Avdić, who is accused of threatening the safety of politician and leader of the Democratic People’s Party, Milan Knežević, along with his family members. This request comes following a criminal complaint submitted by the local police, which indicates significant evidence against Avdić.

According to statements from the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office, the police initiated an investigation after Avdić allegedly made multiple threats against M.K. and his family. The threats reportedly occurred on February 2, 2026, around 14:00, when Avdić used his phone to contact the duty service of the Police Directorate in Bijelo Polje.

The prosecutor, after questioning the suspect, filed a motion with the Basic Court in Bijelo Polje suggesting that Avdić should be prohibited from leaving the municipality. This measure aims to ensure the safety of the alleged victim and his family while the investigation proceeds.

The police have indicated that the evidence collected so far substantiates the claims against Avdić, leading to the current legal proceedings. Such actions underscore the seriousness with which authorities are treating threats against public figures and their families.
