Robert Irwin Celebrates DWTS Win with Heartwarming Return Home
Robert Irwin, who captured the hearts of viewers during his winning journey on season 34 of Dancing With the Stars, has returned to his roots at Australia Zoo after an exhilarating few weeks. On Thursday, he shared a delightful video on Instagram showcasing his reunion with some furry friends at the zoo, including a koala and a bird, as he proudly displayed his mirrorball trophy.
In the video, Robert, 22, can be seen holding the trophy aloft for the animals to inspect. He concluded the clip by comparing his trophy with that of his older sister, Bindi Irwin, who won the same competition a decade earlier alongside her partner, Derek Hough. Bindi’s four-year-old daughter, Grace Irwin, watched as Robert playfully pointed out, “This is Uncle Robert’s mirrorball, and this is Mommy’s mirrorball.”
After winning the competition on November 25, 2023, Robert embarked on a press tour before heading to South Africa to host the upcoming season of Australia’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here. His return home to Queensland marks a significant moment as he transitions back into his responsibilities at the zoo, which his family operates.
From Dance Floor to Zoo Life
In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Robert expressed his eagerness to reconnect with his role at the zoo, stating, “The thing that I most want to do, really, is return to my day job, first and foremost. Because my day job is not dancing.” He emphasized that while he enjoys television work, his heart lies with wildlife conservation and education.
“My main priority right now is to completely reconnect with my day job and with what is most important to me,” he added. Robert aims to serve as a role model for young people, demonstrating the importance of following one’s passion. “I really think that’s important,” he noted.
Robert also reflected on the legacy of his parents, Steve Irwin and Terri Irwin, and his desire to continue championing environmental causes. Steve Irwin tragically passed away when Robert was just two years old, a loss that has profoundly shaped his life and career. During his time on Dancing With the Stars, Robert dedicated a special performance to his late father, set to the song “Footprints in the Sand” by Leona Lewis.
A Warm Welcome Back
The warmth of his return to Australia Zoo was not lost on Robert, who expressed gratitude for the support he received from fans and fellow contestants. Bindi, who commented on his Instagram post with “So happy,” along with other alumni of the show, contributed to the celebratory atmosphere surrounding his victory.
Robert Irwin’s journey from the dance floor back to the zoo illustrates not only a personal triumph but also a commitment to his family’s legacy and the environment. As he resumes his work, he remains dedicated to inspiring the next generation and continuing the important conservation efforts championed by his family.
