In a significant development for legal practitioners and students in the Isle of Man, Douglas-based commercial litigation and employment firm Coren Law has launched CLICK, the first online civil procedure portal on the island. This innovative platform serves as a comprehensive digital knowledge hub, consolidating Manx civil procedure law and practice in one accessible location.

CLICK aims to provide free access to over 100 pages of content, making it easier for users to find relevant legal information quickly. Available on the Coren Law website, the portal includes a user-friendly A-Z directory and a built-in search function to enhance navigation. Each entry links directly to original sources, such as Acts of Tynwald, High Court Rules, and pertinent case law, with highlighted paragraph numbers for ease of reference.

Supporting Legal Education and Practice

The portal is designed to complement existing resources like Manx Law Reports and Judgments Online, and it is expected to become an invaluable resource for practitioners and students alike. Users can also view a short introductory video on the website to better understand how to utilize the portal effectively.

Regular updates will ensure that CLICK remains relevant, featuring trends and data that include key limitation periods and examples of indemnity costs awards. Notably, the portal will highlight areas where Manx law diverges from that of England and Wales, providing critical insights for users navigating these differences.

Steven Coren, Director of Coren Law, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “CLICK is an exciting project. Since the Rules of Court were introduced in 2009, the Isle of Man has developed a significant body of case law across most key areas of civil procedure. It continues to evolve.” He hopes that the portal will enhance accessibility to Manx civil procedure law.

Community Support and Accessibility

Designed by Afundi, CLICK is entirely free to use and does not require users to create an account or log in. However, visitors have the option to make voluntary donations to CIRCA Isle of Man, a local charity that focuses on inclusion, accessibility, and wellbeing throughout the island. Laura Cubbon, centre manager at CIRCA, noted, “Every voluntary donation made directly strengthens this work, helping us maintain essential services and ensure support is available to those who need it most.”

The launch of CLICK represents a forward-thinking step for legal resources in the Isle of Man, reflecting a commitment to enhancing legal education and practice while fostering community engagement through charitable support.
