Spalding United Achieves Dominant 3-0 Victory Over Needham Market
Spalding United delivered a convincing performance on Saturday, defeating Needham Market 3-0 in a match that showcased their tactical prowess. The victory, part of the Southern League Premier Division Central, saw Bart Cybulski open the scoring, followed by two goals from Jack Roberts. This win marks Spalding’s second consecutive home triumph and extends their impressive record to just one loss in the last ten league matches.
Manager Praises Team’s Performance
Following the match, manager Jimmy Dean commended his team’s ability to control the game. He noted, “We have controlled the majority of the game and it’s how we want a match to play out. We knew we were leaking too many goals and we’ve made a couple of little changes to our set-up in our last couple of games because we had been going away from what was making us successful.” Dean’s tactical adjustments appear to have paid off, as the team backed up their midweek victory over Kettering with an impressive showing against a Needham side that recently secured a 6-1 win.
Dean highlighted the importance of confidence within the squad, stating, “It was a fantastic win on Tuesday night, but we know that we played safe. We’ve got a little bit of confidence back in the ranks and it was important that we went to the next level with the ball and I felt we did that.” He also praised the team’s defensive performance, emphasizing that Needham Market had not created significant chances against them.
Key Players Step Up
Despite missing captain Liam Moore due to a three-match suspension, Spalding United managed to keep a second successive clean sheet. Connor Johnson made a notable return from injury, solidifying the Tulips’ defense. Dean remarked, “Liam is a massive player for us and the sending off was a scandalous decision.” He also commended Lewis White for his growth in the role, attributing much of the team’s defensive stability to the players stepping up during Moore’s absence.
The match saw Spalding break the deadlock in the 33rd minute, demonstrating patience and composure throughout the first half. Dean commented on the team’s mentality, saying, “There was no desperation about us like there was against St Ives.” He acknowledged past mistakes but remained focused on the future, urging his players to concentrate on accumulating points as they head into their next fixtures.
With the victory, Spalding United remains in second place in the league standings. The team will be looking to continue their winning streak when they host Bury Town on Tuesday night.
