Trump Urges Republicans to Support Release of Epstein Files
President Donald Trump has called on House Republicans to support the release of files related to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, a move that could lead to a unanimous vote in the House. Trump stated it is time for lawmakers to “move on” from the issue, describing Epstein as a distraction from his achievements during his presidency. His comments signal a significant shift in his stance, as he previously criticized members of his own party for their support of investigations into Epstein’s connections with influential figures.
In a post on social media, Trump emphasized that members of Congress pursuing information regarding Epstein’s alleged ties to powerful individuals, including himself, “can have whatever they are legally entitled to.” He urged Republicans to “get BACK ON POINT” and redirect their focus to pressing matters such as the economy. This endorsement comes at a time when Republican lawmakers were divided over whether to vote for a bill that would compel the Justice Department to release documents related to Epstein, who was implicated in serious criminal activities prior to his death in 2019.
Now, with Trump’s backing, some legislators are predicting that the House could see a unanimous vote on the release of the Epstein files as early as Tuesday. According to The New York Times, this shift in support could expedite the decision-making process, uniting Republicans who were previously at odds over the issue.
Before this unexpected U-turn, Trump had publicly criticized GOP representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie, labeling Greene a “traitor” and Massie a “loser” after both indicated they would collaborate with Democrats to push for the publication of the Justice Department’s documents concerning Epstein. Their actions had highlighted a rift within the Republican party regarding the handling of Epstein’s legacy and ongoing investigations.
The anticipated House vote reflects a broader desire among Republicans to pivot away from controversies that could detract from their legislative agenda. Trump’s latest remarks suggest he aims to consolidate party support and refocus attention on issues that resonate more strongly with their voter base.
As the situation develops, the potential release of the Epstein files could bring to light further details about the late financier’s connections, thereby impacting ongoing discussions about accountability among influential figures.
