Barstool Sports Star Cody “Beef” Franke Dies at 31
Cody “Beef” Franke, a beloved golf instructor and content creator for Barstool Sports’ popular podcast Fore Play, has died at the age of 31 following an unexpected medical emergency. His passing, which occurred over the weekend, was confirmed in a statement posted on X by the podcast earlier today, leaving fans and colleagues in shock.
The message announced, “We are beyond devastated to announce that our good friend and cherished Barstool Sports colleague, Cody ‘Beef’ Franke, passed away from a sudden medical issue over the weekend. Cody truly loved the game of golf. He selflessly spent much of his life helping others improve and enjoy the game.” The incident took place while Franke was attending a wedding in the Dominican Republic.
Franke’s colleague, Dan “Big Cat” Katz, expressed deep sorrow over the news, stating it was “really, really, really sad. Really tragic.” His journey from being a dedicated PGA professional to a viral sensation and prominent Barstool personality was marked by his infectious humor, humility, and passion for golf.
Franke’s Impact on Golf and Media
Before joining Barstool, Franke served as the Head Golf Professional at various clubs in Wisconsin and California. He became well-known for his engaging swing tips, entertaining one-club challenge videos, and a signature gesture of removing his hat before shaking hands, which reflected his respect for others.
Barstool founder Dave Portnoy paid tribute to Franke, saying, “Barstool lost a member of our family this weekend. Just tragic news. You will never find a nicer more genuine person than Beef. … Another cruel reminder that tomorrow is never promised.”
Details surrounding the exact cause of death remain unclear as investigations are ongoing. Franke’s family has requested privacy during this challenging time.
The outpouring of grief from fans has been significant. One fan remarked, “It was evident that Cody was a special dude well before his Barstool days. I’m thankful the entire world was given the privilege to see what he was all about.” Another added, “Terrible news about Beef today. Devastated to hear this. Sending thoughts and prayers to you all and his family.”
Golf influencer Paige Spiranac called Franke’s death “heartbreaking news,” highlighting his kindness and good nature. She noted, “He was such a kind and good person.”
As the golf community mourns the loss of a passionate advocate for the sport, fans and colleagues alike remember Franke for his enthusiasm and positive influence on the game. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire golfers and content creators for years to come.
