A female burglar nicknamed “Catwoman” has been arrested in São Paulo, Brazil, after allegedly stealing cash, jewelry, and luxury items from upscale residences. Known for her glamorous appearance, Paola Carita Gobel reportedly infiltrated these luxury flats by posing as a resident, according to local police.

Once inside, Gobel targeted high-value items, including money, jewelry, watches, perfumes, and designer handbags, effectively executing daring heists. This arrest marks her second capture; she was previously apprehended in 2023 after allegedly stealing goods valued at £160,000 from a residence. Following her initial release, she swiftly returned to her criminal activities.

Modus Operandi and Arrest Details

In the latest incident, Gobel rented an apartment using personal information stolen from a civil servant. This fraudulent act ultimately led to her downfall when the victim discovered the misuse of his details and reported it to the authorities. Police conducted a raid on November 19, 2023, discovering not only drugs but also a stolen vehicle in the garage of the rented property.

During the operation, officers found that Gobel and her accomplices provided false rental contracts to law enforcement. She was arrested the following day, alongside three men. Authorities noted that Gobel often worked with an accomplice during her heists, though her gang had not yet targeted the apartment complex where she was apprehended.

Investigators revealed that the group arrived at their rented flat days prior, carrying only a few bags and mattresses. They were observed covering their faces while filming other residences, using fake names to enter the building. To distract the doorman, they simulated a scenario where one member was inside meeting a partner, allowing others to move stolen items in and out.

Background and Criminal Record

The police chief reported that two of the individuals arrested had previous convictions for serious offenses. All suspects have established criminal records for gang formation, burglaries, and robberies, raising concerns about organized crime in the area. Officers are now awaiting forensic analysis of the suspects’ phones to determine if additional accomplices were involved in the burglaries.

The suspects face multiple charges, including criminal association, vehicle identification tampering, intentional receipt of stolen goods, trespass, and use of false identities. The police’s strategic response highlights ongoing efforts to address organized crime and protect luxury residential areas from such audacious burglaries.
