New Community Interest Company Secures Future of Daisy Bus Service

A new Community Interest Company (CIC) has been established to ensure the continuation of the Daisy Bus service, which provides vital transportation for cancer patients from the Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight to Southampton Hospital. The announcement comes after the Jersey government decided to withdraw funding for the service, citing a decrease in user numbers, which would have led to its cessation.
In response to this decision, a community campaign emerged to preserve the Daisy Bus, highlighting its importance for patients seeking treatment. Many users expressed that the shuttle service not only facilitated access to medical appointments but also fostered connections among individuals facing similar health challenges.
Following a successful fundraising initiative, the campaign team behind “Save the Daisy Bus” confirmed the formation of the CIC. Led by Michèle Le Quesne-Newton, the group aims to purchase a vehicle for the service, which will be rebranded as the Daisy Ring Bus.
Fundraising Efforts and Future Plans
The fundraising efforts have already raised over £12,000 from approximately 300 donors, with the group now setting a new target of £20,000. The cost of operating the service is estimated at £1,000 per week, and many have described the shuttle as a “lifeline” for those undergoing cancer treatment.
Ms. Le Quesne-Newton, chair of the new CIC, expressed gratitude for the community’s support, stating, “The initial response was phenomenal. Patients are so grateful for the support of the community – it’s been truly humbling.” The group plans to unveil more details regarding the service’s future in the coming weeks.
Individuals wishing to contribute to the fundraiser can do so via the website justgiving.com/crowdfunding/savethedaisybus. The establishment of this CIC marks a significant step toward securing accessible transportation for vulnerable patients in the region, ensuring that essential services remain available for those in need.
