Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rains as IMD Issues Orange Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several regions in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Palghar, and Thane, as heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on Thursday, March 15, 2024. The IMD warns that isolated areas could experience intense weather conditions, prompting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to advise residents to avoid travel to coastal regions. High tidal waves, coupled with persistent rainfall, are anticipated in the coming days.

The IMD’s forecast indicates that Mumbai will likely see moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday, with minimum temperatures expected to remain around 23 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures reaching approximately 28 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, a yellow alert will be in place for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, signaling the potential for adverse weather.

In light of the predicted heavy rains, Mumbai Airport has issued an advisory for travelers. Passengers are encouraged to verify their flight statuses with airlines and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid traffic disruptions and ensure timely arrivals at the airport.

As part of its weather warnings, the IMD has also issued a red alert for Raigad, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted at multiple locations, with isolated areas potentially experiencing extremely heavy rainfall. This heightened alert underscores the seriousness of the weather conditions expected to impact the region.
