Sky Mobile Cuts Prices for Black Friday, but Better Deals Exist
Black Friday has prompted significant price reductions in mobile data plans, with Sky Mobile announcing competitive offers on its SIM-only plans. The company has cut the price of its 10GB plan to £8 per month, down from £14. For users seeking more data, the 40GB plan is available for just £10 per month. Both options come with unlimited calls and texts, making them appealing for customers looking to save while maintaining their current devices.
While these offers from Sky are attractive, they may not be the best option available. SMARTY is providing a standout deal this Black Friday with a 50GB SIM-only plan for the same price of £8. This offer includes 12GB of EU roaming, unlimited texts, and calls, with no annual price increase. Notably, SMARTY operates on the Three network, while Sky uses the O2 network, which can influence service quality and coverage.
Comparing Data Plans
For those considering their options, it’s important to weigh the benefits of each provider. Although Sky offers a variety of plans, SMARTY maintains a straightforward approach with its 50GB deal. In comparison, the 8GB SIM-only plan from SMARTY costs only £7, providing a substantial increase in data for just an additional £1. The flexibility of SMARTY’s 1-month plan allows customers to cancel at any time, making it an appealing choice for budget-conscious individuals.
Other competitors are also in the mix. Mobiles.co.uk features similar offers with a 50GB plan for £8 per month, but this is structured as a 12-month commitment. Additionally, they provide a £36 cashback offer, requiring customers to submit a mobile phone bill five times over the year to claim. This process can be cumbersome and may deter some buyers.
The Appeal of SIM-Only Deals
SIM-only deals are particularly attractive for consumers who have fully paid off their handsets or prefer to retain their existing devices. These plans present an opportunity for significant savings, as providers like Sky Mobile and SMARTY typically offer lower prices than major networks.
The operators providing these services, known as mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), lease network access from larger providers, such as Three, EE, O2, and Vodafone. While MVNOs may not offer the same perks—such as discounted streaming services or promotional offers—that larger networks do, they compensate with more affordable data options.
As Black Friday approaches, consumers are encouraged to carefully evaluate available deals. With options like Sky’s reduced prices and SMARTY’s generous data offerings, shoppers have the opportunity to choose plans that best meet their needs and budgets.
