Apple Faces Backlash Over iPhone 17 Pro Color Choices

Apple has come under fire from users following the launch of the new iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, with many expressing dissatisfaction over the color options available. Critics have taken to social media to voice their concerns, suggesting that the company has overlooked important consumer preferences. The backlash includes threats from some users to switch to rival brand Samsung.
During a major launch event on September 9, 2023, Apple introduced its latest lineup, featuring the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and the newly designed iPhone Air, which is touted as the slimmest handset the company has ever made. While the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone Air are offered in lighter metal and pastel shades, the Pro models are restricted to navy, silver, and orange—colors that many fans are deeming a significant misstep.
TikTok user Katlynn Nelson has become a prominent voice in this discussion, posting a video that quickly garnered significant attention. In her clip, she criticized Apple for its decision, stating, “Apple, you messed up when you launched navy, orange, and silver as the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max colours.” She emphasized that women are likely the primary consumers of the Pro models and that their preferences for “cuter” colors have not been acknowledged.
Nelson noted that many women are gravitating towards Samsung’s flip phones, which are available in more appealing colors like pink and pastel shades. “Do you want to know what you are doing? Pushing them over to Samsung,” she asserted, highlighting the potential impact of Apple’s color choices on its female customer base.
The sentiment expressed in Nelson’s video resonated with many viewers, leading to a flood of comments in support of her position. One user wondered, “What happened to white, black, silver, gold?” while another lamented the lack of options, saying, “People saying they just cover it with a case have never had the satisfaction of a pink, mint, or lavender phone with a clear glitter case.”
Despite the overwhelming support for Nelson’s views, not everyone agrees with her perspective. Some users defended the new colors, with one commenter stating, “As a female, I was lowkey excited to see the orange colour.” Another user expressed indifference to color choices, saying, “I don’t need everything I own to be pink.”
This backlash raises questions about Apple’s market strategy and whether the company is effectively meeting the needs of its diverse customer base. A marketing professional commented, “I would love to see the research that went into this decision,” suggesting that there may be discrepancies between corporate strategy and consumer demand.
