A unique display of winter-themed artwork is now ongoing at the Newbury Today gallery, featuring contributions from local artists. From December 25, 2023, until January 1, 2024, a new piece will be showcased each day, celebrating the festive spirit of the season.

Among the featured artists is Flora Gare, an accomplished artist known for her innovative wire sculpture techniques. Currently leading workshops at City Arts, The Base in Greenham, and Farnham Maltings in Surrey, Gare is dedicated to sharing her artistic skills through various educational platforms.

Gare emphasizes the connection between her art and the natural world. “Through the processes of drawing with wire and ink; I am connecting with and exploring the natural world,” she explains. Her technique transforms lines in space into three-dimensional objects, capturing the organic qualities and movement of wire. The contrasting colors of copper and ink further enhance her creations, adding depth and vibrancy.

Flora Gare holds a Master’s degree in Sculpture from Winchester School of Art, which she completed in 1998. Since then, she has gained recognition through numerous exhibitions and commissions throughout the UK. In addition to her teaching, Gare offers bespoke workshops for small groups in her studio, allowing participants to engage directly with her artistic process.

The ongoing exhibition also features works by other talented artists, with previous pieces available for viewing online. The series includes contributions from Trish Roberts, David H Jones, Geoff Wond, Michael Norcross, Elizabeth Vickers, and Kevin Scully. Each artist brings their unique perspective to the winter theme, enriching the gallery experience for visitors.

For those interested in exploring the rich tapestry of local artistry this winter, the Newbury Today gallery presents a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the creativity and talent of the region. Explore more about Flora Gare and her workshops by contacting her directly for details.
