Irish Brand Dubarry Launches First Store in Edinburgh

A renowned Irish luxury countrywear brand, Dubarry, is set to launch its first store in Edinburgh at the end of March 2024. The new outlet will be located within the historic Assembly Rooms building on George Street, marking a significant expansion for the brand into the Scottish retail market.
The store will offer a variety of products including boots, winter coats, equestrian wear, accessories, leather goods, belts, socks, and scarves. Dubarry emphasizes that its items are designed for durability, appealing to customers who value quality over quantity. Shoppers should be prepared for premium prices, with items such as a ladies’ waistcoat priced at approximately £279. The brand encourages a more intentional approach to purchasing, suggesting that its products, while potentially more expensive, are built to last for years.
A Commitment to Quality and Sustainability
In line with its philosophy, Dubarry’s website states, “Dubarry products are designed to be timeless and versatile, no matter the decade – styles that can be worn and loved longer.” This commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship reflects the brand’s heritage, which dates back to its establishment in 1937 in Ballinasloe, Galway. Initially a clothing factory, Dubarry gained acclaim for its high-quality leather shoes and has since evolved into a respected name in the countrywear sector.
The company underwent a management buyout in 1983, transitioning its business model in the early 2000s from a focus on trade shows and business-to-business sales to direct-to-consumer sales. Dubarry opened its first physical store in 2012 and has since expanded to include locations in London and Cheltenham.
Strategic Expansion into Scotland
A spokesperson for Dubarry commented on the Edinburgh store opening, stating, “Already established with retail outlets in London, Cheltenham, and Dublin, Dubarry’s expansion into Scotland represents a strategic and natural progression to a region where there is an increasing demand with a growing customer base.” The brand also maintains subsidiary operations in key locations such as Oxford (UK), Utrecht (Mainland Europe), and Pennsylvania (USA).
Dubarry is well-known for its high-quality boots, clothing, and accessories designed for both country and sailing environments. The brand anticipates that its products will resonate strongly with Scottish shoppers who engage in outdoor pursuits. The Edinburgh store is expected to become a destination for those seeking investment-quality pieces that combine heritage craftsmanship with practical outdoor performance.
As a regular exhibitor at the Royal Highland Show, Dubarry’s new store opening underscores its commitment to timeless style, ideally suited for the Scottish landscape. The brand’s mantra, “Buy Better, Last Longer,” reflects its dedication to providing high-quality, durable products that cater to discerning customers.
