Former Police Chief Unable to Attend Montenegro Inquiry Due to Health
The inquiry into the so-called “black troika” case in Montenegro faced a setback as Milan Vujanović, the former head of the Podgorica Security Center, was unable to attend due to health issues. The session of the Inquiry Board, held in the Montenegro Assembly, was expected to include Vujanović’s testimony regarding the murder of journalist Duško Jovanović.
Vujanović submitted medical documentation to the board, explaining his absence. He emphasized that he would inform the board should his health improve enough to allow him to participate. “If my health condition improves, I will notify you so that the hearing can take place,” he stated in a message addressed to the board.
Political Reactions to Vujanović’s Absence
Following Vujanović’s absence, Momčilo Leković, a member of the Inquiry Board and a representative of the Democratic Party, commented on the implications of Vujanović’s statements. Leković suggested that Vujanović’s remarks targeted former Chief State Prosecutor Vesna Medenica. “Perhaps this gives us the opportunity to hear from her in the near future,” he noted, urging Medenica to speak out, as she possesses crucial information not only about Jovanović’s murder but also about other significant cases.
Earlier, the proposal for Vujanović’s hearing was submitted by Milan Knežević, co-chair of the board from the Democratic Party of Montenegro (DNP). He indicated that he would no longer suggest candidates for hearings moving forward, as reported by the ETV portal.
Future Hearings Planned
During the session, Gordan Stojović from the Movement for Europe Now (PES) proposed that the next individuals to be summoned by the board should be Ibrahim Čikić and Blagoje Zlatičanin. The board agreed to extend invitations for future hearings with these individuals, indicating that the investigation continues to seek further insights into the ongoing matters.
The Inquiry Board’s work remains crucial in addressing serious allegations surrounding the events and individuals tied to Montenegro’s political landscape. The absence of Vujanović, while a setback, highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the board as it works to uncover the truth behind these significant cases.
