Vicky’s Hallowe’en Garden Returns for Safe Trick-or-Treating

Vicky’s Hallowe’en Garden, a beloved local tradition, will welcome children for a safe trick-or-treating experience on October 31, 2023, from 17:30 to 20:00 at Victoria Road in Alton. This family-run event, free of charge, has delighted the community for over 15 years.
A Safe and Inclusive Environment
Megan Metcalfe, a spokesperson for the garden, emphasized the commitment to creating a family-friendly atmosphere. “We are dedicated to providing a safe space for children to go trick-or-treating without the fear of unexpected jump scares or overly frightening themes,” she explained. The garden embraces a spooky yet fun vibe, focusing on enjoyment rather than fear.
The event has gained significant popularity, with many returning families and new visitors each year. What began as a modest front garden display has transformed into a substantial walk-through experience. Attendees can expect a vibrant setup filled with decorations, props, music, and a variety of treats, including sweets and non-edible options.
Inclusivity remains a priority for the organisers. The garden is designed to accommodate visitors with different needs, ensuring level access to the treat table and providing assistance to those who may require it. All family members participating in the event have undergone Disclosure and Barring Service checks and are actively involved in local schools, charities, and sports clubs.
Community Support and Charitable Efforts
In addition to providing a fun atmosphere for children, Vicky’s Hallowe’en Garden also engages in charitable efforts. In recent years, the event has raised funds for various local causes through donation buckets. The designated charity for 2023 is the Vokes Over-60s Lunch Club, which plays a crucial role in supporting the community’s elderly population.
Megan Metcalfe expressed her enthusiasm for the fundraiser, stating, “This charity does incredible work and is important to so many people locally. We hope to raise lots of money for them.” The combination of festive fun and charitable giving embodies the spirit of community that Vicky’s Hallowe’en Garden aims to promote.
