David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst Eye Reunion for Only Fools Anniversary
Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst may soon reunite to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the beloved British comedy series, Only Fools and Horses. Over two decades since the show concluded, and more than ten years since their last joint appearance, Sir David is reported to be developing a two-part documentary dedicated to the series, which originally aired from 1981 to 2003.
As the famed market trader Del Boy Trotter, Sir David has expressed enthusiasm for the project, which aims to honor the show’s enduring legacy. A source revealed that he is keen to involve Nicholas, who portrayed his on-screen brother Rodney Trotter, in this commemorative effort. “David is well aware of Only Fools’ huge fanbase, so appreciates how much these documentaries will be lapped up,” the source told The Sun.
Nicholas has largely stayed out of the public eye in recent years, missing various television tributes to the series and avoiding annual fan gatherings that often attract devoted followers. Despite this, the documentary is expected to feature previously unseen material, and Nicholas’s participation would be a significant addition to the project.
The documentary currently lacks a confirmed broadcast date, but it is anticipated to air around September 8, 2024, coinciding with the official anniversary of the show. The last time David and Nicholas shared the screen was during a special sketch titled “Beckham in Peckham,” which aired on March 21, 2014, as part of the Sport Relief charity event. This appearance came over ten years after the final episode of Only Fools and Horses, which aired on December 25, 2003.
While the two actors were reportedly close during the show’s run, David acknowledged in a 2022 interview with The Mirror that their friendship has changed since the conclusion of the series. “He’s much more, how can I say, self-contained, perhaps, than he used to be,” David stated. “So, unfortunately, we don’t see each other as much as I’d like to. But that’s how things work out sometimes.”
With the 45th anniversary approaching, fans are hopeful that this reunion will reignite the camaraderie between the two actors and provide a nostalgic look back at one of Britain’s most cherished television series. As preparations for the documentary unfold, the excitement among fans continues to build, eager for insights and memories from this iconic duo.
