The Original Factory Shop Launches 50% Off Sales as Closures Hit

The Original Factory Shop has announced the closure of three additional locations across the United Kingdom, sparking significant closing down sales with discounts of up to 50%. This decision is part of a larger restructuring effort that has seen numerous stores shuttered this year, with a total of 26 shops set to close in 2025.

Among the stores closing is the branch in Chard, which will permanently shut its doors on September 7, 2025. The announcement was made via a Facebook post, which expressed gratitude to customers and staff for their support. The post read: “We are sorry to let you know… This store is closing. Thank you to our wonderful colleagues for your support throughout our time here in the local community.”

Customers have reacted with disappointment on social media, with many sharing their fond memories and expressing their gratitude for the service provided. One customer remarked, “So sorry to hear that you are closing, you are all great staff, you all helped me when I was not very well in your shop, thank you all again.”

The other two stores earmarked for closure include locations in Whitchurch, Shropshire, and Caldicot, Wales. The Whitchurch store announced its impending closure with a message highlighting significant savings for customers, stating: “We’re sadly closing our doors, but that means big savings for you. All stock is reduced to clear – grab up to 50% off the original price.”

The restructuring and subsequent closures come after the acquisition of The Original Factory Shop by Modella Capital, a private equity firm that specializes in revitalizing struggling retailers. Following the acquisition in February, Modella initiated a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) to renegotiate rents at a number of locations, aiming to avoid insolvency and keep the business afloat.

As part of the restructuring, The Original Factory Shop has already closed several locations this year, including branches in Milford Haven, Perth, and Chester Le Street, among others. The list of closures continues to grow, with Market Drayton also set to close on September 20, 2025.

While the company has not responded to inquiries regarding the specifics of their closure strategy, it has been clear that multiple loss-making stores are part of the restructuring plans. The ongoing changes have left many employees and customers feeling unsettled, as the store has been a staple in various communities for years.

In total, the closures represent a significant shift for the retailer, which has been a popular destination for bargain hunters. As the company navigates these changes, it remains to be seen how this will impact its operations and customer base in the long term.
