Luke Littler Claims Victory at World Matchplay, Celebrates with Girlfriend

Luke Littler etched his name in history by becoming the youngest-ever champion of the World Matchplay on July 30, 2023. The 18-year-old defeated seasoned player James Wade with a score of 18-13 at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, securing a prize of £200,000. Littler’s remarkable comeback from a 5-0 deficit showcased both his talent and resilience, as he surpassed Wade’s previous record for the youngest victor in this prestigious tournament.
Following the victory, Littler shared a heartfelt moment with his girlfriend, Faith Millar, during the post-match interview with Sky Sports reporter Polly James. After being informed that his loved ones had been shown on the big screen, Littler expressed his joy, stating, “I am just so happy… they had been a bit nervous this past week.” He reflected on the tension surrounding his performance but emphasized his satisfaction with emerging victorious after ten intense days in Blackpool.
Littler and Millar, who has been a constant presence in his journey, were first seen together in May 2023. Initially rumored to be just friends, their relationship has blossomed, with Millar attending various events to support Littler, including the US Darts Masters. Their bond deepened as she joined him on stage after his historic win, marking a significant moment in both their lives.
In his conversation with James, Littler humorously noted that his mother had joked about almost having a heart attack during the tournament. He recalled the challenges he faced, particularly in matches where he fell behind, saying, “Once again I have pulled myself out of these scorelines… it has been a good 10 days.” His ability to recover from deficits of 5-0 and 7-3 during the tournament demonstrated his growth as a player.
Reflecting on his past experiences, Littler recalled his first-round exit in the previous year’s tournament. He noted that many may have doubted his chances this time around, but he was determined to prove himself. “I don’t want to be 5-0 down again,” he said, highlighting his commitment to improving with each match.
Looking ahead, Littler expressed his ambitions, stating that winning one of every major tournament is his goal. He noted, “I’ve only got a few left to tick off,” indicating his desire to chase after the remaining titles he has yet to claim. This victory not only marks a significant milestone in his career but also sets the stage for future successes in the world of darts.
As the celebration continued, Littler posed for photographs with the Phil Taylor Trophy, symbolizing his triumph and the bright future that lies ahead. His journey, from a promising young talent to a world champion, serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes everywhere.
