Welsh Ambulance Service Appoints Emma Wood as Chief Executive
The Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust has appointed Emma Wood as its new Chief Executive, effective from early October 2023. Wood transitions to this role from her previous position as Chief People Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. With nearly two decades of experience as a Board Director across both public and private sectors, she brings a robust background in leadership, having held senior roles within the NHS and emergency services.
Reflecting on her new position, Wood expressed her enthusiasm for joining the Trust during a critical phase in its development. “It’s a real honour to be joining the Welsh Ambulance Service at such a pivotal moment in its journey,” she stated. Wood emphasized the Trust’s progress in transforming its services and her eagerness to build upon this foundation.
She highlighted the opportunities that lie ahead, focusing on innovation and the enhancement of care quality throughout Wales. “I’m passionate about creating a working environment where our teams thrive and I’m deeply committed to enhancing colleague experience as a key driver of excellent patient care,” Wood added. Her commitment to serving communities across Wales reflects a dedication to impactful leadership.
The Chair of the Trust, Colin Dennis, welcomed Wood’s appointment, noting the highly competitive nature of the recruitment process. “The calibre of applicants reflects the growing national reputation of the Welsh Ambulance Service, and Emma stood out as an exceptional candidate,” he remarked. Dennis acknowledged Wood’s extensive leadership experience and her genuine passion for service improvement.
