Kogi State Implements Ban on Trailer Parks Due to Security Risks
The Kogi State Government is set to enforce a ban on trailer parks across the state beginning on October 29, 2025. This decision follows a directive from Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in response to intelligence reports indicating that certain trailer parks, particularly those located in Zariagi and Osara, have become hotspots for criminal activities.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, announced the upcoming enforcement during a press briefing in Lokoja. He emphasized that the government aims to proactively address security threats rather than react after incidents have occurred. “The directive of His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, is clear. From October 29, 2025, the state will begin full enforcement of the ban on trailer parks,” Fanwo stated.
The commissioner highlighted that the intelligence gathered suggests that these parks are being used as hideouts for individuals engaged in criminal activities, posing a significant threat to community safety. “We have decided to move ahead of the criminals instead of lamenting after lives might have been lost. Government will not allow that to continue,” he added.
Strict Enforcement Measures
Fanwo confirmed that security agencies have been instructed to implement the ban rigorously, warning that violators will face severe legal repercussions. He noted that the enforcement of this ban is backed by legislation, as Governor Ododo has already signed a bill prohibiting the movement of articulated trucks during daylight hours.
The commissioner urged operators of trailer parks to comply with the new regulations before the enforcement date. He called on residents to support the government’s initiative, reiterating that the protection of lives and the maintenance of security are paramount priorities for the administration.
As Kogi State prepares for this significant policy change, the government remains committed to ensuring a safer environment for all residents. The upcoming enforcement marks a crucial step in the state’s efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety.
