Piastri Reflects on Lessons Learned After Thrilling 2025 Season
Oscar Piastri has expressed gratitude for the lessons he has learned throughout the 2025 Formula 1 season. After an intense championship battle, Piastri’s teammate, Lando Norris, emerged victorious in the final race at Abu Dhabi, securing third place and finishing the season just ahead of Piastri.
Piastri, who started the race in third position, managed to overtake Norris on the first lap but ultimately could not maintain his lead. He noted, “We gave it everything… we tried a gamble on strategy,” reflecting on the team’s efforts to secure the championship. Despite the efforts, Piastri finished the season with two points behind Norris and 13 points off the championship leader.
As the season progressed, both drivers showcased impressive performances, each achieving seven wins. Piastri recorded 16 podium finishes, while Norris took home 18, contributing to McLaren’s success in winning back-to-back constructors’ titles as early as the Singapore Grand Prix in October.
Team Dynamics and Personal Growth
Piastri described the season as a “fun challenge,” acknowledging the ups and downs that come with competing at such a high level. “At certain points maybe it doesn’t feel that fun, but I think it’s been a really enjoyable season for both of us,” he stated, highlighting the camaraderie developed with Norris.
Norris, reflecting on his relationship with Piastri, remarked on the invaluable lessons he gained from his younger teammate. “I’m lucky… the team have given me an incredible car… Oscar’s done an incredible job,” he said during his post-race interview with Sky Sports F1. Norris emphasized that Piastri pushed him to perform better consistently throughout the season, making him a stronger driver.
When asked about the mutual learning experience, Piastri acknowledged the value of their relationship, saying, “I’ve learned plenty of things along the way.” He noted that competing against Norris has contributed significantly to their individual growth and the team’s overall success.
Challenges and Triumphs Throughout the Season
Piastri began the season as a championship leader, maintaining the top position from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in April until Norris overtook him in October. The Australian faced challenges, including a disappointing performance at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where he crashed out during qualifying and the race. Additional setbacks in Brazil and a disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix further complicated his title chase.
Despite a rocky finish, Piastri remained positive about his experiences. He described moments of feeling “unstoppable” during the season and emphasized the importance of learning to navigate adversity. “I’ve learned a lot about myself,” he said, reflecting on the unique pressures of competing in Formula 1 compared to junior categories.
As the 2025 season concludes, Piastri is optimistic about the future, eager to apply the lessons learned in his ongoing journey in Formula 1. His experiences this year are set to shape his approach in the seasons to come, reinforcing his commitment to continuous improvement in his racing career.
