Montenegro’s EU Integration Gains Momentum with New Report
Montenegro’s path towards European Union membership received a significant boost following a meeting between Andrija Mandić, President of the Montenegrin Parliament, and Johan Satler, Head of the European Union Delegation in Montenegro. During their discussion, Satler presented the European Commission’s report on Montenegro for 2025, which has been publicly characterized as the best assessment to date.
According to an official statement from the Parliament, Mandić expressed that the report’s positive evaluation reinforces Montenegro’s status as a leader in European integration within the region. He noted, “This assessment is not just a success for institutions; it is an acknowledgment of all citizens who believe that Montenegro is the next EU member and that it can carry out reforms that transform society for the better.”
A particularly encouraging aspect of the report is the announcement regarding the development of an accession agreement with the European Union. Mandić emphasized that this indicates Montenegro’s European journey has entered its final phase.
“I am convinced that if we maintain this pace of reforms and political dialogue, Montenegro can become a full member of the European Union by 2028,” Mandić stated. He reiterated the Parliament’s commitment to the European path through legislative responsibility, collaboration with the government, and constructive dialogue among all political actors.
Mandić conveyed Montenegro’s determination to move towards Europe with confidence, reflecting on the nation’s history, values, and responsibilities. “Our goal is not just membership in the Union, but to become a state where happy, free, successful, and proud people live European values in their everyday lives,” he added.
This meeting and the positive report not only highlight the progress Montenegro has made but also set a clear direction for its aspirations within the European community. As the nation prepares for the next steps, the commitment of its leaders and citizens will be crucial in achieving these ambitious goals.
