Montenegro Cancels Residency for 19 Foreign Nationals Amid Crackdown
Montenegro’s police have cancelled residency permits for 19 foreign nationals as part of an ongoing initiative aimed at controlling the legality of foreign presence in the country. This action is part of the broader operation named “Foreigner,” which also saw the initiation of temporary residency termination for five individuals.
According to the Police Administration, a total of 90 misdemeanour charges have been filed recently, alongside the issuance of 23 return orders for individuals deemed to be unlawfully present. The authorities reported that three individuals were forcibly removed from the country, while another three were expelled.
Details of the Operation
The intensified measures taken by the Police Administration include 143 enforcement actions regarding foreign nationals within the country. This initiative reflects a commitment to ensuring compliance with residency and employment laws applicable to foreigners across Montenegro.
Since the beginning of January 2025, the authorities have recorded a significant number of enforcement actions. Specifically, 8,672 misdemeanour charges have been filed, and 1,333 return orders have been issued for individuals. Additionally, 170 individuals have been forcibly removed from the country, while 149 foreign nationals have been expelled altogether.
The police statement emphasized that the residency permits of 1,576 individuals have been revoked. Furthermore, the temporary residency status of 1,302 individuals has been initiated for termination, indicating a proactive approach by law enforcement to regulate foreign residency.
