New Mexico Districts Enhance Virtual Learning with Stride Partnership

Two school districts in New Mexico, Chama Valley Independent Schools and Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools, have entered into a partnership with Stride Inc. to expand virtual education through the Destinations Career Academy of New Mexico (NMDCA). This initiative, which commenced operations in 2020, will operate under the leadership of the two districts beginning this fall, with enrollment projected to exceed 3,000 students for the 2025-2026 school year.
The collaboration aims to enhance access to quality virtual instruction in regions that have traditionally been underserved. Superintendents Anthony Casados of Chama Valley and Martin Madrid of Santa Rosa expressed their commitment to this strategic partnership, stating, “This partnership with Stride K12 is a strategic step forward in expanding educational access and innovation in our rural communities.” They emphasized the importance of offering high-quality virtual options to create new opportunities for students across New Mexico.
This partnership allows NMDCA to benefit from Stride’s extensive resources and instructional support while maintaining local oversight and alignment with state educational objectives. Since its launch, NMDCA has become a key player in the online education landscape of New Mexico, featuring licensed teachers, customized instruction, and career-focused courses, including dual-credit options for high school students.
The growth of NMDCA aligns with an increasing demand from families for flexible and future-oriented learning models, particularly in areas where geographic and economic barriers have limited access to specialized educational programs. Adam Hawf, the Stride K12 superintendent of schools, noted, “Families in New Mexico are increasingly seeking education options that are flexible, future-focused, and built to support each student’s individual needs.” He added that the partnership with Chama Valley and Santa Rosa will bolster Stride’s efforts in the state and support their shared commitment to innovation and student achievement.
Enrollment for the upcoming school year is currently open, with applications being accepted through the academy’s website. This partnership not only signifies a progressive move towards enhancing educational access but also positions both districts as leaders in adopting innovative learning solutions tailored to the needs of their communities.
