Princess Kate Encourages Outdoor Adventures for Royal Children

Princess Kate has established a strict guideline for her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, limiting their screen time during the summer holidays. This decision comes from her own experience, as she has identified outdoor play as a vital component in her recovery from cancer.
The 43-year-old royal is keen for her children to enjoy nature and engage in various outdoor activities. Author Louise Heren, speaking to the Independent, indicated that the summer for George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7, will be filled with “lots of outdoor play,” including bike rides, playing with their dogs, and possibly some gardening. Heren also noted, “If it is tipping it down, they will still go out.”
In a 2020 podcast episode of “Happy Mum, Happy Baby” hosted by Giovanna Fletcher, Princess Kate shared her views on motherhood and outdoor activities. She expressed her happiness when spending time with her family in the countryside, reflecting, “I’m happy when I’m with my family outside in the countryside and we’re all filthy dirty.”
Kate emphasized the importance of outdoor experiences, stating, “As children, we spent a lot of time outside, and it’s something I’m really passionate about.” She believes that these experiences are essential for physical and mental well-being, allowing for quality family interactions without the usual household distractions.
The royal mother shared her desire for her children to remember their time spent together, saying, “Those moments with me as a mother, but also the family going to the beach, getting soaking wet, filling our boots full of water, those are what I would want them to remember.” She contrasted this with a stressful household dynamic, stating, “Not a stressful household where you’re trying to do everything and not really succeeding at one thing.”
In May 2023, following her remission from cancer, Princess Kate launched a new video series that highlights “the healing power of nature.” In this series, she encourages the public to connect with nature and celebrate a renewed sense of hope. Throughout her treatment, Kate openly discussed how being outdoors positively impacted her, noting that she often walked and swam outside during her six months of chemotherapy.
As the royal children enjoy their summer break, the focus on outdoor play underscores Princess Kate’s commitment to fostering a healthy and active lifestyle for her family.
