Vlahovic Critiques Government’s Response Amid Political Turmoil
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miodrag Vlahovic, has voiced strong criticism of the current Montenegrin government, highlighting what he perceives as a lack of accountability amid rising political tensions. In a post on social media platform X, Vlahovic stated that while the country faces significant challenges, the opposition has failed to demand the resignation of the government, instead waving flags in protest.
Vlahovic specifically targeted the financial minister, suggesting that he lacks the qualifications needed for the role. He remarked, “The government has not fallen, yet the opposition merely waves flags.” He further criticized the prime minister for abruptly ending the visa-free regime with Turkey, attributing this decision to an alleged attack involving unidentified Azerbaijani individuals.
According to Vlahovic, European bureaucrats are overly enthusiastic about what they term “the progress of Montenegro,” even as the nation grapples with internal strife. He noted that the opposition appears to be waiting for a moment to stage a more significant confrontation, stating, “They are waiting for Mickej to train the responses in Parliament.”
In his critique, Vlahovic emphasized the disconnect between the government’s actions and the pressing issues facing the country. He sarcastically referred to the government’s foreign policy strategy for the period 2026-2029 as a “unique phenomenon,” questioning the relevance of such a long-term plan given the current situation. He highlighted the lack of effective communication from official channels, suggesting that “the official foreign minister in the function of Bosniaks has seen Erdoğan, while the unofficial minister remains silent.”
Vlahovic’s comments reflect a broader sentiment of frustration among some Montenegrins regarding the political landscape. He remarked on the media’s role, suggesting that independent journalists are failing to highlight critical events, instead opting for less impactful narratives.
In a striking observation, he described the current political atmosphere as one where anyone who dares to speak out against the status quo is labeled an extremist. “If it weren’t for the undesirables, everything would be blooming,” he concluded, underscoring a sentiment of disillusionment.
The ambassador to Montenegro, Johan Satler, has previously praised the country’s antifascist values, but Vlahovic implied that such remarks may not resonate with local leaders. He suggested that local officials might interpret diplomatic praise as ironic, indicating a deeper skepticism toward foreign influence in Montenegro.
Vlahovic’s remarks come at a time when the political environment in Montenegro remains charged, with many citizens seeking clarity and accountability from their leaders.
