The Sinodun Players are set to stage the award-winning play The Father by Florian Zeller, translated by Christopher Hampton, from October 14 to 18, 2023. The performances will take place at the Corn Exchange in Wallingford, a town known for its rich history and vibrant arts scene. This production promises to deliver a powerful and moving portrayal of dementia and its profound effects on individuals and their families.

This compelling play offers an insightful exploration of one man’s experience with dementia, inviting audiences to view the world through the eyes of the protagonist, André. The narrative unfolds in a fragmented manner, mirroring the confusion and disorientation often associated with the condition. With a blend of warmth and humor, The Father captures the complex emotions tied to memory and identity, emphasizing the resilience of the human spirit.

“Our aim with this production is to spark conversation, deepen understanding, and connect with audiences on a personal level,” say the Sinodun Players. The impact of dementia resonates with many families, and the theatre serves as a unique platform to foster empathy and reflection on this challenging issue.

Each performance, lasting approximately 90 minutes, will be followed by a talkback session featuring dementia specialists. This provides audiences with a rare opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, ask questions, and gain insights from professionals in dementia care.

The Sinodun Players, who manage the 176-seat Corn Exchange, have a long-standing tradition of bringing theatrical productions to Wallingford. The theatre, established from the remnants of a Grade II Listed Building, relies on the voluntary efforts of its members and friends. The group stages at least four plays each year, along with an annual pantomime and a Drama Festival competition for local amateur drama groups.

With its poignant themes and emotional depth, The Father is expected to resonate with audiences long after the final curtain falls. The production serves as a reminder of the fragility of memory and the profound nature of human connection. For more information and to book tickets, visit https://sinodunplayers.org.uk/.
