Coleg Cambria Hosts Events to Promote Equality and Inclusion

Coleg Cambria has reaffirmed its dedication to equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) by hosting a series of events aimed at fostering collaboration among staff and celebrating their progress. These activities were led by key figures in the college, including Miranda Hazell, Specialist Teacher and Lead on Inclusion Training, and Alice Churm, Fairness and Belonging Lead.
Two significant events highlighted the college’s commitment. The Inclusion Roadshow provided a platform for staff from different campuses to share innovative practices. Curriculum and support teams showcased interactive displays that emphasized strategies designed to reduce barriers for learners. This initiative aimed to cultivate a culture of kindness, respect, and belonging within the institution.
In parallel, the Progressing Equality Conference focused on providing the college’s progress coaches with practical tools to integrate inclusion into their daily interactions with students. Participants examined how consistent, small actions can significantly impact learners, helping them feel “encouraged, empowered, and enabled.”
Celebrating Progress and Future Plans
Reflecting on these initiatives, Lizzie Stevens, Director of Inclusion and Progress, commended the collective efforts of the staff. She stated, “These events demonstrate how our staff are working collectively to create environments where all learners can flourish. It is not just about policies or one-off projects, but about embedding inclusion into everything we do – from teaching and learning to wellbeing and support.”
Stevens emphasized the importance of sharing best practices, listening to students, and continuously challenging themselves to enhance the college environment. “We are building a college culture where everyone feels they belong and can achieve their full potential. That is what true inclusion means, and it is at the heart of Coleg Cambria,” she added.
Building on this momentum, the college has initiated planning for its inaugural Inclusion Education Conference, set to occur towards the end of the academic year. This event will gather educators, practitioners, and sector leaders to exchange research, showcase innovations, and celebrate advancements in inclusive learning, wellbeing, and equality.
Coleg Cambria invites expressions of interest from educators, organizations, and partners wishing to attend or contribute to the 2026 conference.
