Young Cancer Survivor Amy-Louise Carmichael Celebrates Tour Success

A young singer from Scotland, Amy-Louise Carmichael, has embarked on a successful music career after overcoming childhood cancer. The 21-year-old artist from Stonehouse recently completed her first tour across the UK, marking a significant milestone in her journey. Diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) at the age of seven, Amy-Louise spent two-and-a-half years undergoing treatment, which included chemotherapy at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow.
This Blood Cancer Awareness Month, Amy-Louise is determined to raise awareness about the disease by sharing her personal story, hoping to inspire others facing similar challenges. Since her diagnosis, she has remarkably raised over £30,000 for Blood Cancer UK, showcasing her commitment to supporting research and improving treatment outcomes for blood cancer patients.
From Hospital Rooms to Stages
It was during her treatment that Amy-Louise discovered her passion for music. Amidst the hospital routines, she found solace in singing, often performing live on hospital radio, Radio Lollipop. “I remember singing in my ward, with the nurses gathered around. It was a happy moment in the hardest of times,” she reflected.
Today, equipped with a BA in Music Performance, Amy-Louise’s career is taking off. Her latest singles, “If I Was Her” and “Delusion,” have gained traction with radio stations across the UK, further cementing her presence in the music industry.
In a remarkable feat, she independently organized her debut UK tour without the assistance of a promoter or management team. Throughout the tour, she performed at notable venues including Strathaven’s Town Mill, SWG3 Poetry Club in Glasgow, Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh, Night & Day Café in Manchester, where she headlined an all-female bill, and concluded at the Hope & Anchor in London.
Reflecting on her experiences, Amy-Louise expressed her gratitude, stating, “My debut UK tour has felt like a dream. I’m so grateful to everyone who came along to one of the shows and showed their support. All the shows were amazing experiences.”
Raising Awareness Through Music
Amy-Louise’s story resonates deeply within the realm of blood cancer awareness. Blood cancer, which includes ALL, stands as the UK’s third largest cancer killer, prompting ongoing research to enhance survival rates and treatment options. By openly discussing her journey, she aims to shed light on the realities of living with blood cancer, offering hope to those currently battling the disease.
The strong community support she received throughout her tour has left a lasting impact on her. “The support and kindness from the audience and fans has been more than I could ever have imagined. I feel like little me would definitely be proud of where I am today,” she shared.
As her music continues to reach new audiences, Amy-Louise Carmichael remains a symbol of resilience and inspiration. Those interested in following her journey can listen to her music on platforms like Spotify and connect with her on Instagram. Her commitment to both her art and to raising awareness about blood cancer serves as a reminder of the power of hope and determination.
