A ceremony marking the launch of the new Bridgwater Community Diagnostic Centre took place recently, signaling the beginning of a significant healthcare project in Somerset. The facility, backed by a budget of £17.8 million, is set to welcome its first patients in early summer 2026, following the receipt of conditional planning approval.

The centre aims to enhance access to essential diagnostic and outpatient services for residents of Bridgwater and the wider Somerset area. It will feature two CT scanners, two MRI scanners, four outpatient rooms, and two echocardiography/ultrasound suites, significantly increasing local diagnostic capacity.

Collaboration for Enhanced Healthcare

The Bridgwater Community Diagnostic Centre is the result of a Managed Service partnership between Ergea UK and the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, along with contributions from Actiform Ltd. Mark Graves, Director of Operations at Ergea UK, highlighted the project’s collaborative spirit, stating, “This important project is a clear example of how innovation and collaboration can come together to benefit patients in Bridgwater.” He emphasized that the centre is designed to transform patient experiences, improve outcomes, and assist the NHS in reducing waiting list backlogs in the local community.

Adam Turner, Head of Imaging at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, expressed enthusiasm for the new facility. He stated, “Both our radiology team and I are really excited about the opportunities to bring complex imaging into the community with this new diagnostic centre.” He noted that the advanced equipment slated for the centre would enable complex CT and MRI scans previously only available at Musgrove Park and Yeovil hospitals.

Turner added that the new facility would not only alleviate pressure on hospital scanners but also offer an enhanced patient experience, thanks to its central location and good transport links. This development is expected to benefit the entire population of Somerset.

Commitment to Modern Healthcare Solutions

Stefan Dransfield, Managing Director at Actiform Ltd, expressed pride in the project, stating, “We’re proud to announce the start of another community diagnostic centre, this time in Bridgwater.” He emphasized that this initiative represents a significant step towards providing high-quality, tailored off-site engineered buildings that bring vital diagnostic services closer to home.

Once completed, the Bridgwater Community Diagnostic Centre is anticipated to improve healthcare access, reduce waiting times, and support earlier diagnosis for local residents. Dransfield highlighted Actiform’s dedication to employing modern construction methods to create exceptional healthcare environments that cater to the needs of both patients and clinicians.

The establishment of the Bridgwater Community Diagnostic Centre marks an important advancement in local healthcare infrastructure, promising to enhance diagnostic services and patient care in Somerset.
