Spider-Man Filming Transforms Glasgow into Marvel’s New York City
Filming for the latest installment of the Marvel franchise has turned the streets of Glasgow into a bustling replica of New York City. The production began on July 31 and will continue until August 15, with extensive prop construction and themed vehicles enhancing the city’s atmosphere.
Eager fans have gathered daily to witness the action, as tanks and cars race through the streets. The excitement peaked on Sunday when Tom Holland, who portrays Spider-Man, made a surprise appearance, delighting fans by stopping to interact with them.
As filming progressed on Tuesday, the production faced challenges from stormy weather. Despite the strong winds brought on by Storm Floris, the shoot continued unabated. Holland’s stunt double was seen swinging from a truck-mounted apparatus as it drove through Bothwell Street in the city center. Although it was not Holland himself, fans were thrilled to see Spider-Man in action.
Crowds erupted in cheers as the web-slinger waved from atop a tank during a scene filmed on the street. One enthusiastic fan told STV News, “We’ve been here for about an hour now, and just hoping to catch a glimpse of Tom.” Another added, “We’ve been here for about 20 minutes, but we came the other day and it was really exciting; it’s great for the city.”
The previous Spider-Man film, released in 2021, featured Holland alongside fellow actors Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, who portrayed alternate versions of the superhero. This multiverse storyline captured audiences, smashing box-office records during its opening weekend and coming close to the success of Marvel’s Avengers movies.
As Glasgow transforms into a cinematic playground for Spider-Man, the enthusiasm and energy among fans underscore the impact of the film industry on local communities. The full list of road closures and other logistical details related to the shoot is available through local channels.
In the coming weeks, fans and residents alike will have the unique opportunity to witness Hollywood magic unfold in their city, as Glasgow becomes a key backdrop for the iconic hero once again.
