Dive into Horror and More: The Triplex Celebrates Film Genres

The Triplex is inviting audiences to embrace the horror genre and more this October with its special series titled “Gorecore.” The event showcases a range of films that explore the extremes of horror, from the terrifying to the absurdly comical. Kicking off the series is the 1977 classic “House,” directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi, which presents a surreal twist on the typical horror narrative.
Obayashi’s film features a group of teenage girls who visit a seemingly haunted country estate. The plot unfolds with bizarre and terrifying elements, including demonic cats and killer clocks, that transform the horror experience into a whimsical adventure. This unique approach highlights the balance between fear and humor, as the characters maintain their cheerful dispositions even amidst chaos.
Special Events and Features
Continuing the celebration of diverse storytelling in film, The Triplex presents several notable premieres and screenings throughout the month. One highlight is Scarlett Johansson‘s directorial debut, “Eleanor the Great,” set for release in 2025. This poignant comedy follows the life of a 94-year-old woman, played by Academy Award nominee June Squibb, who grapples with loneliness and inadvertently claims her deceased friend’s Holocaust survival story as her own. The film explores themes of grief and connection, showcasing Johansson’s evolving voice as a filmmaker.
Another anticipated film, “One Battle After Another,” directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, features an all-star cast including Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn. Scheduled for release in 2025, this action-packed narrative revolves around a former revolutionary’s quest to find his missing daughter, highlighting the lengths to which parents will go to protect their children from their pasts.
The Triplex will also screen “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere,” which delves into the creative process behind Bruce Springsteen’s intimate album “Nebraska.” Directed by Scott Cooper, this film captures a pivotal moment in Springsteen’s career, showcasing his artistic struggle and connection to his roots.
Classic and Cult Favorites
Fans of cult cinema can look forward to screenings of classics like “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” scheduled for October 25. This interactive event promises an engaging experience with live performances and themed activities, allowing audiences to immerse themselves in the film’s eccentric world.
Additionally, the series “The New Hard-Boiled: The Birth of American Neo-Noir” will feature films such as “Point Blank” and “Klute.” These screenings offer insights into the evolution of the noir genre, with “Klute” showcasing the collaboration between director Alan J. Pakula and actress Jane Fonda, who received an Academy Award for her role.
As the month progresses, The Triplex remains committed to celebrating a wide range of film genres, inviting audiences to explore the multifaceted world of cinema. Whether it is through the lens of horror, comedy, or drama, there is something for everyone to enjoy at this iconic venue.
