Police Urge Public for Help Following Rape Incident in Oldbury

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of rape following a serious incident in Oldbury, England. The police are actively seeking information from the public as investigations continue into the attack, which occurred in the Tame Road area just before 08:30 on September 9, 2023. The victim, a woman in her 20s, has been described as a British-born Sikh, and the incident has been classified as racially aggravated.
Chief Superintendent Kim Madill from Sandwell Police has made an urgent appeal for witnesses who may have seen two white men in the vicinity at the time of the incident. “We again appeal to anyone in the area where we are today who may have seen two white men around the time of 08:30,” Madill stated. One suspect is described as having a shaved head and a heavy build, wearing a dark-coloured sweatshirt and gloves. The second man reportedly wore a grey top with a silver zip.
Police efforts have included a thorough examination of hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, and forensic specialists are conducting extensive inquiries as part of the ongoing investigation. “This is a key time for people going to work or school, and we need your help if you saw anything that may assist our inquiries,” Madill emphasized.
The arrested individual has been released on bail pending further inquiries, as officers continue to support the victim and keep her informed of developments in the case. “Violence against women and girls remains a key priority for me and my teams in Sandwell,” Chief Superintendent Madill said. He also reassured the community that the incident is currently being treated as isolated.
Authorities are asking anyone with relevant information, including dashcam or doorbell footage, to come forward. Those who can assist are encouraged to contact the police by calling 101 and quoting log number 798 of September 9.
Madill concluded by reaffirming the commitment to justice, stating, “We are doing everything possible to bring those responsible to justice on this young woman’s behalf. Our investigation will not stop until individuals responsible for this awful attack are put before the courts.”
