King Charles has announced a three-day closure of the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, affecting visitors during the summer holiday period. The estate will be closed from August 14 to August 17, 2023, to accommodate the Heritage Live concert series, featuring prominent artists such as Mariah Carey, Stereophonics, and Michael Bublé.

The official Instagram account for the Sandringham Estate conveyed the news, stating, “The Sandringham Estate will be closed to general visitors for Heritage Live’s concert series. This includes our Visitor Centre car parks and Courtyard facilities, including our cafe and restaurant. We look forward to welcoming visitors back from August 18 onwards. Thank you in advance for your understanding.”

Royal Traditions and Summer Plans

While guests attending the concerts will gain unique access to the royal estate, King Charles will not be present during the events. The Sandringham Estate is typically associated with royal winter visits, while the King traditionally spends his summers at his residences in Scotland, particularly Balmoral Castle and Birkhall.

According to royal correspondent Danielle Stacey from HELLO!, it has long been a tradition for the royal family to spend Christmas at Sandringham and summer months in Scotland, a practice established by the late Queen Elizabeth II. Balmoral offers the royal family enhanced privacy, providing a serene environment for fishing, hiking, and barbecues in the picturesque Highlands.

Balmoral’s Visitor Schedule

In a related development, Balmoral Castle is also set to close to visitors just days before Sandringham’s closure. The Scottish estate has been open to the public since April 1, granting access to its gardens and a historic ballroom that hosts a special exhibition. However, the opportunity to experience royal life at Balmoral will end on August 10, as the residence prepares to close for the autumn season.

Queen Elizabeth traditionally resided at Balmoral from late July through October. Her granddaughter, Princess Eugenie, once remarked in the documentary “Our Queen at Ninety,” “I think Granny is the most happy there. I think she really, really loves the Highlands.” In contrast, King Charles reportedly favors Birkhall, which he inherited following the passing of his grandmother, the Queen Mother. The King and his wife, Queen Camilla, chose to honeymoon at Birkhall after their wedding in 2005, and they frequently return there to celebrate their anniversaries.

As the closures approach, visitors and royal fans alike are reminded to plan their trips accordingly, ensuring they do not miss the chance to experience these iconic estates when they reopen.
