Masika Kalysha, best known for her role on “Love and Hip Hop,” has publicly defended her decision to share emotional photographs from the funeral of her estranged husband, Jamar Champs, who tragically died in a car accident last month. Champs was only 38 years old when his Tesla Cybertruck was struck by a BMW driving in the wrong direction on the Katy Freeway in Houston, resulting in a collision with an 18-wheeler.

On November 25, 2025, Kalysha posted several images on Instagram that depicted her mourning at the funeral. In these photos, she is seen visibly distressed, at times being supported by her father, while her daughters, Khari and Amari, also appeared emotional. Khari, aged nine, is Kalysha’s daughter with rapper Fetty Wap, while Amari, three, is her child with Champs. Kalysha captioned one of her posts, “I took my vows. Till death do us part… I will carry on your legacy.”

Despite the personal nature of her posts, Kalysha faced significant backlash on social media, with many users criticizing the display as inappropriate. In response to the criticism, she took to her Instagram Stories, stating, “If you have a problem with ANYTHING I post on MY PAGE involving MY HUSBAND, MY LIFE, MY KIDS, or literally anything, I invite you to go fk yourself and unfollow me.”

Kalysha continued her defense by saying, “I will NOT be explaining myself in any way, shape, form or fashion to a single SOUL.” She expressed gratitude to those who have supported her during this challenging time, reinforcing her message of resilience. “Just showing up is worth more than gold,” she added, reflecting on the community support she has received.

The photographs Kalysha shared captured moments of deep sorrow, showing her comforting her daughters and expressing her grief. “Grief is the loudest silent echo that you will never hear but can’t get out of your head,” she wrote in one post. The emotional weight of her words resonated as she attempted to articulate her profound loss: “You will always have a place in my forever broken heart.”

Despite her efforts to clarify her stance, the backlash persisted. Social media commentators continued to mock her decision to post such intimate moments online. One user remarked, “Masika is a sick lady to have someone take all them pictures of her crying at a funeral,” while another commented sarcastically about her willingness to share her grief publicly.

Jamar Champs‘s family confirmed his death on October 28, 2025, following the tragic accident. According to reports from the Houston Police Department, the BMW that hit Champs’ vehicle burst into flames, killing its driver instantly. Champs was critically injured and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The driver of the 18-wheeler involved in the incident was unharmed.

In previous statements, Kalysha described the bond Champs had with her daughter Khari, emphasizing that he treated her as if she were his own. She acknowledged the difficulty of processing the loss, stating, “I think it’s going to take a while to really, fully process things. And, you know, grief, it is a journey.”

Kalysha also shared insights into how her younger daughter is coping with the loss. When asked if she understood what had happened, Amari reportedly said, “I want to go with daddy and God in heaven and get the candy,” illustrating the innocence and complexity of a child’s grief.

As Kalysha navigates this difficult period, her choice to share her emotions publicly has sparked a conversation about the boundaries of grief and the role of social media in personal loss.
