Candidates Announced for December By-Elections in South Kesteven

The candidates for the upcoming by-elections in South Kesteven District have been confirmed. The elections will take place on December 11, 2023, for the Belmont and Aveland wards. This follows the resignations of Grantham Independent councillor Phil Gadd and Conservative councillor Richard Dixon-Warren, who both stepped down at the end of October 2023.

Councillor Dixon-Warren cited a desire to spend more time with his family and to engage more in community work as his reasons for resigning. In contrast, Phil Gadd did not provide a comment regarding his departure when approached for his perspective.

Residents interested in participating in the elections have until midnight on November 25, 2023, to register to vote. For those wishing to register by post, the deadline is set for 5 PM on November 26, 2023. Additionally, individuals who prefer to vote by proxy must ensure their registration is completed by December 3, 2023.

Candidates for the By-Elections

The nominees for the Aveland Ward include:

– Kyle Abel (Reform UK)
– David Burling (Labour)
– Brynley Heaven (Green)
– Tony Vaughan (Conservative)

For the Belmont Ward, the candidates are:

– Peter Gibbons (Independent)
– Sean Hothersall (Green)
– Ritchard Litchfield (Reform UK)
– Susan Nash (Labour)
– Adam Stokes (Conservative)

In addition to the district by-elections, a parish council election was scheduled for Pointon and Sempringham Parish Council. This election was intended to address one vacancy; however, only one nomination was submitted. As a result, Ian Mansell was elected unopposed, and no voting process will be necessary.

The upcoming by-elections represent an opportunity for local residents to influence their community governance. As the election date approaches, engagement from the electorate will be crucial for determining the future direction of the Belmont and Aveland wards.
