Parts of the Cotswolds are expected to experience snowfall next week as cold weather conditions follow the passage of Storm Claudia. According to BBC Weather, areas such as Stow-on-the-Wold could see light snowfall on the evening of March 13, 2024. Temperatures are predicted to drop to between 1°C and 2°C from 21:00 to 05:00 the following morning, creating conditions conducive to snow.

While the Met Office has not confirmed a similar forecast, they anticipate temperatures could fall to 0°C and even -1°C, with a slight chance of precipitation overnight. The Met Office further indicated that it could feel as cold as -5°C due to wind chill factors.

Cold Weather Following Storm Claudia

As Storm Claudia moves southward, a high-pressure system to the northwest is expected to usher in a cold northerly airflow from the Arctic. According to Dan Holley, deputy chief meteorologist at the Met Office, this shift will lead to significantly colder conditions across the UK.

Holley stated, “This will bring much colder conditions than of late, and while generally drier than recent days, there will also be a risk of wintry hazards, such as snow and ice.” He noted that widespread frost is anticipated, with temperatures potentially dipping as low as -7°C in certain areas next week. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain in single figures throughout the country.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts closely, as there is a possibility that weather warnings for snow and ice will be issued in various regions. The transition to colder weather marks a significant change after a prolonged period of above-average temperatures, and individuals should prepare for the accompanying challenges that winter weather can bring.

As the week progresses, the impact of these colder temperatures and potential snowfall will be closely watched, particularly in the Cotswolds and surrounding areas.
