The Memorial Tournament Ivan Ćorović took place over the weekend at the Economic School in Niksic, showcasing the skills of young basketball players born in 2014 and later. Nearly one hundred boys participated, demonstrating their talent and passion for the sport while commemorating the life of the late basketball player and coach, Ivan Ćorović.

This event not only served as a platform for showcasing athletic abilities but also carried a profound emotional significance. The tournament aimed to celebrate Ivan’s legacy, reminding attendees of how memories endure even when life is cut short. Participants engaged in spirited games filled with laughter and excitement, all while honoring a beloved figure in the basketball community.

Celebrating Basketball and Community

Young athletes from various clubs, including Budućnost Voli, Leotar from Trebinje, AS, and Gale from Herceg Novi, joined the host team, OKK Montenegro, for a day of friendly competition. Five matches were played, and the organizers emphasized that there would be no official scores. The scoreboard was intentionally left “broken,” ensuring that all players could enjoy the experience without the pressure of winning or losing.

The tournament allowed young boys to play freely, without the usual anxieties associated with competitive sports. Every player received equal playing time, showcasing their skills in a supportive environment. Participants took shots from various distances, some hitting impressive three-pointers, while others learned valuable lessons from missed attempts.

A Legacy Remembered

Each team was awarded a trophy in memory of Ivan Ćorović, and every participant received a T-shirt featuring his image. The trophies were presented by Vukota Ćorović, Ivan’s younger brother, who attended the event alongside family members. The atmosphere was filled with nostalgic memories of Ivan, who made significant contributions to basketball in Montenegro during his short life.

Ivan Ćorović was not only a talented player but also served as a coach and delegate in the Montenegrin basketball community. He was the captain of the junior team for KK Crvena Zvezda and led the junior national team of Montenegro to the “A” division under coach Nebojša Bogavac. His commitment to the sport and his community left a lasting impact, inspiring the next generation of athletes.

Despite his passing at the young age of 24, Ivan’s spirit continues to thrive through events like this tournament, encouraging young players to embrace the game he loved. The tournament not only celebrated his memory but also fostered a sense of community among young athletes, ensuring that Ivan’s legacy lives on in their hearts and on the court.
